Overview
Pre-saturated sterile alcohol prep pads containing 70% isopropyl alcohol (IPA). Each pad is individually sealed in a foil pouch to maintain sterility and prevent evaporation. The 70% IPA concentration is the gold standard for surface disinfection in laboratory and clinical settings — more effective than higher concentrations because the water content facilitates protein denaturation in microbial cell walls. Essential for maintaining aseptic technique when accessing multi-dose vials.
Mechanism of Action
Isopropyl alcohol at 70% concentration denatures surface proteins and dissolves the lipid membrane of bacteria, fungi, and many viruses. The water fraction slows evaporation, extending contact time on the surface and allowing deeper penetration into microbial cell structures. This makes 70% IPA more bactericidal than 90% or 99% concentrations, which evaporate too rapidly for complete microbial kill. Each pad is pre-cut to approximately 3x6cm, providing adequate surface area for single-vial or single-site preparation.
