Overview

Sterile 0.3ml insulin syringes with permanently attached 31-gauge needles (8mm length). The 30-unit barrel carries graduations at half-unit intervals, which is twice the resolution of a 1ml barrel over the same span. For draw volumes below 0.3ml this materially reduces measurement error: reading 6 units on a 30-unit scale is far more precise than reading 6 units on a 100-unit scale.

Mechanism of Action

Resolution is a function of barrel diameter, not syringe capacity. A narrower barrel spreads the same volume over a longer scale, so each graduation represents less liquid. The 31-gauge needle (0.25mm outer diameter) is the finest commonly available and produces minimal tissue disruption. Dead space is correspondingly small, reducing compound loss per draw.

Research Applications

  • Small-volume draws below 0.3ml
  • Protocols requiring half-unit measurement resolution
  • Low-concentration reconstitutions
  • Minimising compound waste in dead space
