Overview
BPC-157 (Body Protection Compound-157) is a synthetic pentadecapeptide derived from a protective protein found in human gastric juice. It consists of 15 amino acids and has been the subject of extensive preclinical research since the 1990s. Studies have investigated its effects on tissue repair, angiogenesis, and gastrointestinal cytoprotection across multiple animal models. BPC-157 has demonstrated stability in human gastric juice, distinguishing it from many other peptides that degrade rapidly in acidic environments.
Mechanism of Action
BPC-157 is believed to exert its effects through modulation of the nitric oxide (NO) system and interaction with the FAK-paxillin pathway, promoting endothelial cell migration and angiogenesis. Research suggests it may also influence the expression of growth factors including EGF, VEGF, and FGF, and interact with the dopaminergic and serotonergic systems. Its cytoprotective properties have been linked to upregulation of the GABAergic system and modulation of prostaglandin pathways.
